40 Years in the Wilderness (Mumia Abu-Jamal’s Martin Luther King Day commentary)

The following commentary by U.S. political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement, titled 40 Years in the Wilderness, is every bit as relevant today as it was when it was recorded in 2003.

  1. There is nothing to celebrate. Look at “Black America!” The state it’s in is there for ALL to see and not one iota of Dr. King’s “Dream” is alive. In fact, we have gone backwards, not forwards with ever increasing poverty, gentrified neighborhoods that have rendered millions of us, homeless. Hunger is off the chain as is unemployment of Black people all across the board. So, once again, I say, “There is not a damn thing to celebrate, more’s the pity!”

    1. I have had to take a break from social media today. The amount of people acting as if the world has magically healed and the United States has been redeemed is just too much.
