An outraged ‘Karen’ named Adana Dean harassed and threatened her Black neighbors in the small town of Discovery Bay, California. Even though Gerritt Jones and his family have lived in their home for over twelve years, Adana Dean apparently believes they don’t belong in the neighborhood. Despite video evidence to the contrary, Discovery Bay Karen claimed that the Jones family’s pit bull went roaming around without a leash before biting her poodle. Dean grabbed her poodle, walked over to the Jones family, pointed her taser at them and began throwing around racist insults. “You know what? You guys are acting like Black people,” said Dean. “You should act like white people… You’re a Black person in a white neighborhood and you’re acting like one. Why don’t you act like a white person in a white neighborhood?” When confronted about her racist remarks, Dean threatened to “sue the hell out of” the Jones family.
Now that the video has gone viral and Adana Dean is known around the world as the Discovery Bay Karen, Gerritt Jones is speaking out about how different things would’ve been portrayed in the media had his family responded to Dean’s threats in kind. “She had a stun gun and if my sister or any of them got physical with her the story would’ve been here this Black family is assaulting just white lady in the streets,” said Jones. Even though it was the Jones family who was threatened by Adana Dean, the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff referred the case to Animal Services because of Dean’s complaint that the Jones family’s dog was off a leash. The Jones family says their dog was never off the leash.
