“Those who are with us deserve everything, but those who are against us deserve to have their heads chopped off with an axe.”
These words were spoken by Israel’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman two weeks ago in the run-up to Israel’s elections. He was speaking about the country’s indigenous Palestinian minority, a group which faces discrimination in just about every sector of society. Lieberman has a history of openly advocating that they be forcibly relocated to the West Bank and Gaza to join other Palestinian refugees, and he’s called for the execution of anyone supporting Hamas. It’s interesting to note that Lieberman is in no way native to the region he calls home. He immigrated to historic Palestine from Russia in 1978, yet he calls for the removal of people whose roots go back hundreds if not thousands of years.
Lieberman’s latest call for the beheading of Palestinians in Israel (aka “Israeli Arabs”) who do not show sufficient loyalty to the state should be read as an act of incitement to violence. Numerous threats have been made on the lives of Arabs living in Israel, as evidenced by a photograph purportedly showing an Israeli pretending to behead the sole female Palestinian representative in the Israeli Knesset, Haneen Zoabi:

Obama could stop all this bullshit by ending military aid to Israel. With enough public pressure over stories like this, there’s still hope he will man up and do what he should have done in 2009.
I’m not holding my breath. Remember how the Congress passed an extra spending bill for military aid to Israel at the very moment the slaughter was happening in Gaza last summer? These so-called “representatives” could care less about anything other than their own careers. The only cure is an informed citizenry. I know that sounds like an impossibility in this country, but I still hold out hope.
