Why is Hollywood Continuing to Whitewash Ancient Egyptian History in 2014?

IMG_9109

It’s been over half-a-century since most African countries severed the chains of European colonialism and officially gained their independence, and during the intermediate years between then and now the academic community has largely come to the point of acknowledging, albeit kicking and screaming, that humanity and much of civilization as we know it have their roots in Africa. But while science firmly places humanity’s origins inside the continent, Hollywood has apparently changed very little since the world supposedly did away with its colonial racist past. Two major studio films will be released this year – The Gods of Egypt,(directed by Alex Proyas) and Exodus: Gods and Kings (directed by Ridley Scott) – which will attempt to portray historically-based events that occurred in Ancient Africa, but with all-white actors being cast in the lead roles. Adding insult to injury is the fact the only roles in which people of color have been cast, at least in the latter film, are those of guards, assassins, “lower class civilians”, thieves, and oh yea… servants. Never mind the reality that during the historical period in which these movies are supposed to have taken place, virtually no white person had yet even stepped foot anywhere in Africa, particularly not in Egypt.

While it is tempting to give the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt and assume that it was never their intention to be so racially-biased in favor of white actors, the images accompanying the soon-to-be-released motion picture films quickly dispel any notion of that being the case. (*) There is no better example than that of the Exodus movie’s recreated monuments of the 19th dynasty Pharaoh Ramesses II, the actual ones being over 2,700 years old and located at Abu-Simbel right next to Egypt’s border with Sudan. The face of the Exodus movie statue bears not even the slightest resemblance to the actual monument on which it was based.

HERE ARE THE FAKE “RAMSES II” MONUMENTS THAT APPEAR IN RIDLEY SCOTT’S EXODUS FILM:

THESE ARE THE ACTUAL MONUMENTS LOCATED AT ABU-SIMBEL IN EGYPT RIGHT NEXT TO THE BORDER WITH SUDAN:

Either the creators of this film have never laid eyes on a photograph of the monuments in question, something that could have been rendered with a quick Google search, or they deliberately sought to “de-Africanize” the Pharaoh’s features by giving him an appearance they thought looked more like a “caucasian”. Particularly irritating is the man who’s been cast in the role of the great King of Egypt himself, a white Australian-born actor by the name of Joel Edgerton. Granted I’ve never heard of the man before this. He may be an excellent actor as far as I know. That doesn’t change the fact that he looks incredibly ridiculous trying to pull off the role of Ramesses II. Judging by the three images I’ve collected below, it appears as if the producers believe that the problem of having a white-as-a-ghost actor in the role of an Egyptian king can be rendered by simply borrowing a can of John Boehner’s orange-tinted sunless spray tan. I guess this is supposed to give him an “exotic” look:

While some might argue that it doesn’t really matter much since the story of “Exodus” is in itself mostly mythology anyway, that doesn’t change the fact that Hollywood is intentionally perpetuating the myth that civilization was somehow conceived of by white men. The Gods of Egypt meanwhile falls nothing short of hilarious in its bogus attempt at recreating the Black Gods of early Africa whose origins are firmly rooted in the Great Lakes region of inner-equatorial Africa. A British and a Dutch actor, both of them white, will be facing off in the roles of the Nile Valley Gods  Horus and Set. Here’s a look at how that’s turning out:

In some sick kind of joke, these are the actors who've been cast to star in the roles of the Ancient Gods of the Nile Valley!

And here are what the actual Gods of the Nile Valley looked like:

Many of the articles that have appeared online criticizing the casting of all-white actors seem to be of the opinion that what they call “Middle Eastern” actors should have been cast in their stead, but in truth Arabs aren’t exactly indigenous to the Nile River Valley either. The origins of Ancient Egyptian Civilization lie at the source of the Nile River. Aside from the Supreme Being, most of the Gods of the Ancient Nile Valley were actually people who lived before 5000 B.C. and, upon their deaths, were deified and thereafter worshiped. The earliest inhabitants of the land we now call Egypt came from the south near the great lakes region, and it is to them that modern civilization as we know is to be attributed. Traveling north from the land known to the ancient world as Ethiopia, civilizations sprung up all along the Nile Valley such as Axum, Ta-Seti, and Kerma. According to the oral tradition recorded by the Greek historian Diodorus Siculus in the 1st century B.C. during his sojourn in Africa, Egypt began in earliest antiquity as a colony or extension of Ethiopia itself. As one noted French Egyptologist wrote in the late 19th century, “By the almost unanimous testimony of the ancient historians, they (the Egyptians) belong to an African race which first settled in Ethiopia on the Middle Nile: following the course of the river they gradually reached the sea.” [Maspero, Gaston. The Dawn of Civilization(1894).] Also contributing to the populating of northeastern Africa were the various Africans who migrated over an extended period of time towards the Nile River as the once-green pastures of the Sahara gradually dried up and became a barren desert.

Aha Min, or 'Menes', early dynasty King who unified Upper and Lower Kemet
Aha Min, or ‘Menes’, early dynasty King who unified Upper and Lower Kemet

It wasn’t until circa 3100-3500 B.C. when a King called Aha Min (referred to as ‘Menes’ by Greeks and subsequent historians) emerged from the south to conquer the Nile Valley kingdoms all the way up to the Mediterranean Sea. This is the first time in recorded history that the two lands known as Upper Egypt (located in the south) and Lower Egypt (located in the north) were unified to form a single entity. We should note, however, that “Egypt” is a word of Greek origin and the ancient inhabitants of the land never used it to refer to either themselves or their country. The proper word was Kmt (Kemet), the plural form of the word Km (Kem) meaning black. It was a descriptive word which was used in this case in reference to themselves, not the soil of the land as Eurocentric Egyptologists would have you believe. When describing themselves as if to distinguish themselves from foreigners, the term used was kmtjwAs the late great historian, Egyptologist, anthropologist, linguist, and physicist Dr. Cheikh Anta Diop demonstrated at the UNESCO 1974 Symposium that was held in Cairo, Egypt, there is no reference to land in either of these terms. The correct “hieroglyphic” (or ‘medu-netcher‘ as it was originally called) that one would use to refer to the black earth, black land or soil would be kme or some variation of it. Another term used by the ancients to describe their nation, Rmt kmt, does contain a reference to land. However, the ‘km’ is still a reference to the color of the people, translating to “men of the country of the black men”. [For the most thorough accounting of this and other evidence proving the African origin of the people of Ancient Kemet, please read the excellent paper written by Dr. Cheikh Anta Diop titled “Origins of the Ancient Egyptians” featured as part of Volume II in UNESCO‘s extraordinarily comprehensive 8-volume General History of Africa series.] It is of no insignificance that the United Nations’ Cairo Symposium commenced with the participants being in general agreement that the architects and creators of early Egyptian civilization were in fact migrants from “the Great Lakes region in inner-equatorial Africa.”

Ancient Egyptian

It wasn’t just the ancient Egyptians who described themselves as black in color either. Ancient writers the world over described the Egyptians in terms that left no ambiguity as to what they looked like. The most respected of ancient Greek historians, the man European scholars lauded as “the Father of History”, Herodotus, himself described the appearance of the Ancient Egyptians he came face to face with during his 5th century (B.C.) travels, remarking “that they are black-skinned and kinky-haired.” (Those are his exact words as they appear in The Histories: Book II.) The famous scientist and philosopher known as Aristotle also provided a description of the Egyptians’ appearance a century later in a statement that, while xenophobic, is still rather telling. Attempting to explain what he believed to be a correlation between physical appearance and personality traits, Aristotle wrote, “Those who are too black are cowards; like for instance, the Egyptians and the Ethiopians.” And as late the 2nd century AD, after many successive invasions of the land, the Greek writer Lucian described an Egyptian character in his Navigations as “not merely black; he has thick lips and his legs are too thin”, while Strabo described both Ethiopians and Egyptians as “darker than Hindus”. [Van Sertima, Ivan. (1986). The Journal of African Civilizations. Great African Thinkers: Cheikh Anta DiopPages 42-46.] And finally there’s Ammianus Marcellinus who, during the time that Egypt was under Roman domination, traveled from Rome to Africa and recorded in his Book XXII how “the men of Egypt are mostly brown or black with a skinny and desiccated look.” All throughout antiquity the people inhabiting ancient Egypt were referred to by the Greeks as ‘melanchroes‘, literally meaning black, as opposed to ‘leucochroes‘ (white) or ‘phrenychroes‘ (brown or dark red).

This man from the Beja tribe in southern Egypt bears a striking physical similarity to the Ancient Egyptians as they were described by the Greek historians of antiquity. This man from the Kereyu tribe in Ethiopia bears a striking physical similarity to the Ancient Egyptians as described by the Greek historians of antiquity.

Why then does the average Egyptian dwelling in the modern Arab Republic of Egypt look significantly different from the original inhabitants of the Nile Valley? The answer lies in the many successive invasions and occupations that began taking place during the latter half of the 1st millennium B.C. Prior to about 1700 B.C., there were virtually no white people anywhere in Kemet aside from maybe a few Asiatic servants who trickled into the Delta. The first foreigners to appear on record came in very small numbers at first and were a group of Semitic people known simply as the Hyksos, which translates to ‘rulers of foreign lands’. (It was long believed that hyksos meant ‘shepherd kings’, but this has proved inaccurate.) At first their presence was welcomed in the kingdom, but as chaos and unrest spread throughout Kemet at the close of the 14th dynasty, the Hyksos were able to take advantage of the situation by usurping the throne of Lower Kemet and establishing themselves as rulers of an area which extended from the Mediterranean in the north to just below the city of Memphis in the south. Depending on which historian one relies on, the Hyksos rule in Lower Kemet lasted either 200 or 500 years in what’s been designated the Second Intermediate Period in Egyptian history. Whatever the case, the majority of Egypt was still governed by the native Egyptian population.  By the time the Hyksos were driven out entirely by the last rulers of the 17th dynasty circa 1500 B.C., all of the greatest monuments for which Egypt is best-known for – the largest of the pyramids and Heremakhet (best known as the ‘Sphinx of Giza’) were at least as old as 1,000 years already. Ancient Egypt really began its decline, at least as far as its native history is concerned, with a wave of successive invasions and conquests that would eventually change the racial makeup of the people of the land and even the culture. The Assyrians conquered for seven years beginning in 656 B.C. Then came the first of what would amount to three different conquests by the Persians in 525 B.C. (the final was in 629 A.D.), followed by the conquest of Alexander the “Great” of Macedonia (Greece) in 334 B.C. and the beginning of the 300-year rule of the Ptolemaic Dynasty. Greek occupation was brought to an end by the all-powerful Roman Empire in 30 B.C. Egypt was essentially reduced to a vassal of the vast Roman empire during its 700-year occupation, but with the rise of Islam as a serious competitor to Christianity as a world religion, a small army of Arabs was able to conquer Egypt in 639 A.D. A major influx of Arabs into Egypt occurred in the next four years and by 643 A.D. Egypt was a largely Arab country. Aside from a later influx of Turks during the medieval rule of the Mameluks, the population has since remained majority Arab. But, as Professor Molefi Kete Asante points out, “The presence of Arabs today in Egypt should not be read as an ancient presence just as White presence in Australia should not be read as an ancient presence. The same for America.”

historicaldistortionLet us not forget that the science of modern Egyptology is itself rooted in the 19th century era in which scientific and academic racism flourished, when Europeans did everything in their power to colonize not just land and people, but the various fields of academia to promote their “scientific” theories of white racial superiority. It should come as no surprise then that the earliest European explorers found ways of attributing everything extraordinary they found in the continent as the creation of white people. They even designated the Black people inhabiting East Africa (perhaps because they saw in them a strong physical similarity to Ancient Egyptians as they were described in the Greek texts) as “Hamites” or “black-skinned caucasians”. This is the double-standard white Egyptologists and anthropologists subjected people of color to. When it came to the study of the most glorious civilizations of antiquity, the Black people who were at the root of it suddenly became “caucasian” or at the very least classified as “non-negroid”. But when it came to deciding the rights of the people who shared these same characteristics in countries under white colonial rule, these “black-skinned Caucasians” suddenly became “Negroes” again in the eyes of the law. The archaeologists who garnered the highest respect from the academic community were usually the ones whose conclusions were the most racist. German Egyptologist Richard Karl Lepsius declared confidently that even Ancient ‘Nubia’ – located in modern-day Sudan – was a civilization that “belonged to the Caucasian race”. The British Egyptologist Richard A. Reisner echoed Lepsius’s sentiment without a single bit of evidence to bolster his claim other than his own white supremacist ideology. “Nubia’s leaders, including Piye,” wrote Reisner, “were light-skinned Egypto-Libyans who ruled over the primitive Africans.” Reisner’s racism was so insistent that, despite all of his “respectability”, he reconciled the unanimous testimony of the ancient Greek writers who described the Egyptians and Ethiopians as Black by saying that they were only referring to “the inert mass of the black races of Africa” who he says were a subjugated caste that “had never developed either its trade or any industry worthy of mention.” A doctor by the name of Joseph Maes wrote in a 1924 article that ancient megaliths located in West Africa could “not have been executed by the black race” because the megaliths “require a considerable amount of effort… without any relationship to the natural functions of eating and copulating which alone interest the black man.” (Maes also described himself as an expert in “Black psychology”.) And finally there’s James Breasted, America’s foremost Egyptologist during his lifetime and the founder of the Oriental Institute in Chicago, who once famously wrote in 1926, “The evolution of civilization has been the achievement of this Great White Race.” The “negroid” and “mongoloid” races, he proclaimed, were “geographically so remote” that they “had no direct connection with the main stream of civilized development of which we of the west are a part.” (**) Breasted of course failed to realize that during the prehistoric era in which civilization began to emerge in Africa followed by Asia, his “Great White Race” as he calls them was largely confined to the caves of Europe where extremely icy weather prevented them from leaving.

Ancient Egyptian Army

And yet, even as European colonialism and imperialism flourished, there were some European specialists who did in fact recognize Kemet for the indigenous African creation that it was. They were entirely shunned by the larger academic community, however, or at the very least conveniently ignored. Foremost among them was Gerald Massey, the author of Ancient Egypt: the light of the world. Others included A. H. L. Herren and Sir E. A. Wallis Budge, the latter writing in his late 19th century book about Egypt: “The pre-historic native of Egypt, both in the old and in the new Stone Ages, was African and there is every reason for saying that the earliest settlers came from the South.” Eugen Georg in his 1931 book, The Adventure of Mankind, reached the same conclusion as Massey and Budge, holding that “Blacks were the first to plow the mud of the Nile; they were the dark-skinned, curly-haired Kushites.” In the latter half of the 20th century a whole field of Africans and people of African descent who specialized in every major field of science made the cause of restoring Africa’s proper place in world history their own, producing irrefutable evidence that Africa was both the cradle of humanity and civilization itself. Some of the most prominent names of this African-centered, or Afrocentric, approach were the late Senegalese scholar Dr. Cheikh Anta Diop, Dr. Ivan Van Sertima, Dr. John G. Jackson, Dr. George G.M. James and Dr. Molefi Kete Asante just to name a few. Together they struck at the heart of white supremacy in higher education like nothing ever had before or since. The reaction of the traditional Eurocentric academia was hysterical, and many right-wing traditionalists still openly mock and deride Afrocentrist curriculum because of what it represents. They feel threatened by African and African Diaspora people studying and interpreting their own history on their own terms, instead of terms drawn up and favored by the white establishment.

Why then has the larger European and Euro-American academic community sought to thwart, undermine, erase, downplay and bury the earliest evidence that the origins of classical civilization are firmly rooted in Africa? The British journalist Flora Shaw, writing 100 years ago under the name of ‘Lady Lugard’, seems as if she might have known the answer:

If this should prove the case and the civilized world be forced to recognize in a black people the fount of its original enlightenment, it may happen that we shall have to revise entirely our view of the black races, and regard those who now exist as the decadent representatives of an almost forgotten era, rather than as the embryonic possibility of an era yet to come.” [quoted from Christianity Before Christ. Jackson, John G. (1985). Page 177]

Heremakhet, better known as the
Heremakhet, better known as the “Sphinx of Giza”.

To put it another way, to acknowledge this would be to acknowledge the extent of the crime that’s been committed against the African men and women of the world, and it would undermine the entire racist logic underpinning the brutal systems of capitalism and imperialism. Count comte de Volney of France recalled in 1787 the revelation that came to him as he beheld the only face of its size to have truly withstood the test of time. Gazing at the gigantic ‘Sphinx’ of Giza, he began to gain a sense of the magnitude of what was being done to the Africans. It was then that it dawned on him

“…that this race of blacks who nowadays are slaves and the object of our scorn is the very one to which we owe our arts, our sciences and even the use of spoken word; and finally recollect that it is in the midst of the peoples claiming to be the greatest friends of liberty and humanity that the most barbarous of enslavements has been sanctioned and the question raised whether black men have brains of the same quality as those of white men!”

That the roles of these historically Black and Brown characters are still being reserved for only the palest of faces speaks volumes about the continuing racism against African people. It sends a message that just about anyone is allowed to take credit for and bask in the glow of African civilizations except for African people themselves! But if there’s one thing Europeans and people of European descent should remember, it’s that just because some might perceive themselves as being the present-day masters of the globe, it doesn’t mean this was always the case, nor is it guaranteed they shall remain so in the future. Empires in history rise and fall; even the United States will prove no exception.

* When the situation is reversed, however, and a Black actor is cast in a role that’s been traditionally reserved for white actors, the backlash from angry white fans has been generally furious. For example, there’s that time when Donald Glover was seriously considered for the part of Peter Parker in the Amazing Spider Man movie, Quvenzhané Wallis was cast to star in the little orphan Annie remake, and most recently when it was announced that Michael B. Jordan would be playing Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four live-action movie. These are fictional stories by the way.

And oh yeah, the Council of Conservative Citizens (the modern spin-off of the White Citizens Council) actually organized a boycott of the movie Thor because the talented actor Idris Elba was cast in the role of ‘Norse’ God Hiemdall.

** As further testament to just how far James Breasted’s racist historiography reached, here’s a direct quote from Georgia’s segregationist Dixiecrat Senator Richard Russell, explaining his reason for his filibustering the Civil Rights Act of 1964:

I’m not an anthropologist, but I’ve studied history. And there is no case in history of a mongrel race preserving a civilization, much less creating one.” [Quoted from Judgement Day: Lyndon Baines Johnson, Martin Luther King Jr., and the laws that changed America. Kotz, Nick. (2005). Page 134.]

  1. Lol. I started up simply looking for hairstyles to update my fros since they got longer than usual and look look look.
ahahaha Well, I see you already discussed this for good, but nothing concerning hairstyles. Guess just gonna cut them! (PS: Am egyptian too, still I was born and I grew in Italy, I am “white”, still I have very very dry curly light colored afros, almost the same as “Tinariwen” rockandroll tuaregs).Aside of that I think that ignorance has many things in common aside from borders. One of these is racism. (nationalism, etc. etc. etc.) 🙂
CAN SOMEONE HEEELP MEEE? I DON’T WANT TO CUT THEM! ahaha

  2. There are simply not enough superlatives to describe your essay, Caleb Gee. From historical accuracy to references to your followers, this is astounding writing for the beginner and intermediary for years of study. And I thought your Pinterest boards are excellent, so just thanks.

    1. Thank you very much for taking the time to read. The comment section on this post in particular has attracted some rather strange people. Some of the comments that were left I didn’t ever take off pending because the hate was just too much.

    1. Thank you Moorbey. This is one I worked pretty hard on and made sure I offered evidence and direct quotes to go along with because I knew it would ruffle some feathers from those who do not wish to accept the truth about the origins of civilization, as evidenced by some of the negative feedback this post has received in the comments section from what appear to be white & Arab nationalists alike.

      1. Don’t sweat the back thinking racist for as much truth that u were droppin it still isn’t going to matter, just realize that u know the truth and put it out there for others to read and learn from. The truth always has a way of coming into the light. Believe me when i say for every negitive comment that u recieve that means someone where read it and started doing the research them-selves and now know the truth as well.Sending a raied Black fist ur way komrade… Panther Love

        1. It does not bother me one bit what these fools have to say. The more vicious they are in their denials the more obvious it is that we have struck a nerve with the truth we are presenting.

  3. Didn’t have time to read the article and my only comment is about the guy who have a haircut like the phoarohs.
The Beja tribe is NOT south Egyptian tribe!!!. It is a Sudanese tribe! Found also in Eritria and Ethiopia.

      1. Hi Caleb gee in see it has been a while since you wrote this article but i came across the picture you put up of the young man of the “beka” tribe but hey Caleb gee, i came through your article browsing for pictures and it’s a great article but the man described as “beka” tribe is actually from the kereyu tribe of Oromo, Ethiopia. Am Ethiopian myself so i guarantee. They may have physical similarities with the beja tribe but that’s definitely a kereyu man. I know this article has been written a while back but wanted to inform you. Besides the minor error, interesting article 👍

  4. Amazing thread. I have thorougly enjoied reading every post. Those i a gree and disagree with. I have come away with more knowledge than i began with. I shall be following your blog from here on out!!!

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to actually read my posts. And of course we all have our agreements and disagreements. At times it came be so hard to remain 100% civil about our disagreements (and I confess I have been guilty at times of being uncivil), but at the end of the day that’s what we get into blogging for 😁, to express our own views. And I am glad to hear your views as well.

  5. I assume it’s because Sub Saharan Africans are not Egyptians. I love how you refuse to include any of the artifacts that aren’t from Nubian rule. I’d like to assume you’ve been to Egypt, but I’m convinced you’re just an Afrocentric who thinks science and anthropology care about race. The ancient Egyptians weren’t white Europeans, but they most certainly weren’t black Africans either. Historically speaking the Mediterranean has never been black. How do you explain thousands of mummies with red and blonde hair with caucasoid features? Personally I don’t care to try and prove what skin shade the Egyptians were, they can be purple for all I care. For anyone who has studied Egypt, been to Egypt, you know there aren’t floods of depictions of black Africans anywhere. It’s insulting to suggest the ancient Egyptians said screw civilization, we are going to walk 6000 miles through a desert to digress back to mud huts and spears. If they didn’t then why are petty black Americans concerned who plays the role? Considering their features are most certainly caucasoid, and there aren’t an influx of Copic actors that I can think of…..

As for the out of Africa theory nonsense in here I laugh. Does anybody read anymore? Or do you only read science published 50+ years ago? That theory was disproven time and time again. Furthermore it’s a UN sponsored agenda to keep Africa occupied by European colonies. If you were intelligent you’d stop endorsing it. Or stop complaining about white people in East and West Africa. What white people are left from being massacred that is.

Summary the Egyptians weren’t white, they weren’t black, they were Egyptians. Black and white Americans share no culture with Egypt. If you read Afrocentrism you’re probably a racist a-hole.

    1. Not one thing you said was true. The “out of Africa theory” is nonsense? It’s accepted by every serious scientist there is basically. Are you some sort of polygenetic theorist for human origin or something? What a load of bull. And you discredited yourself when you wrote “I love how you refuse to include any of the artifacts that aren’t from Nubian rule.” Only none of the ones I posted were even from the 25th dynasty, which according to eurocentrists like yourself was the only era of Nubian rule. I see images from 1st dynasty and 3rd dynasty in comments section, the 17th and 18th in the blog post. Do you think all of those were “Nubian”?

    2. Also you’re crazy if you think the hair color of mummies like Rameses II, who was in his 80s when he died, are evidence of blonde and red hair. What 80-something year old do you know of that still has their original hair color?

    3. If you read Arab centrism…you are an asshole….eveidence is there….even DNA….do you know about the anu/black people and how they used the river Nile to travel to eygpt back to the origin of river Nile which is lake Victoria and mt Kenya where the gods resided….present day Egyptians like you are stupid….after eygpt kingdoms were established in sub Saharan Africa but also some failed due to splitting up plus African Hebrews don’t accept kings….the eygptian language and cultures are nilotes…do you even know what a nilotes is…..

    1. “Why is Hollywood Continuing to Whitewash Ancient Egyptian History in 2014”

Why trouble your tiny mind over such matters. It’s a movie. Who cares what color the actors are.

Ya’ll need a job carrying bricks all day for a while so you’ll have something “real” to worry about.

      1. So one has to carry bricks day in and day out in order to have an opinion? Apparently the entire point of this discussion goes over your head, so why do you even bother inserting yourself into it?

  6. I don’t know if any of you have ever been to the south of the nile(eritrea/ethiopia) but they look pretty near middle eastern to me, they certainly don’t look fully African at all(unless Obama also looks fully African). If the Egyptians came from Ethiopia, they would’ve already been very light skinned before any mixing

    1. LOL. Of course nowadays they look “pretty middle eastern”. We’re talking about ancient Egyptians here. Original people from this civilization that were living thousands years AGO. Long before Arabic and White people came and got mixed with locals. Go read, educate yourself, preferably with real books (like ones from Cheikh Anta Diop or Theophile Obenga), not the whitewashed s**t that sits on white countries or even modern Egypt libraries shelves.

    2. Did you NOT read the article ?

“The presence of Arabs today in Egypt should not be read as an ancient presence just as White presence in Australia should not be read as an ancient presence. The same for America.”

    3. Eritreans and Highland Ethiopians have about 50% ancient West Asian admixture some tribes in Eritrea have even about 60% West Asian admixture and Somalis have about.40% West Asian admixture. So the people of the Horn of Africa are at best 60 Africans. From their black side their are Nilotics. Ancient Egyptians were predominantly not black but NOT white European white either. However the Nubians were very present in ancient Egypt and 3 Nubian kings ruled over ancient Egypt. The ancient Egyptians made it in their historical sources and paintings very clear that they considered themselves very distinct from the black Nubians. Today many Sudanese and present day Nubians live in Southern Egypt too. Due to the arabic slave trade million of Subsaharan Africans were dedported to North Africa and the Middle East. What I don’t understand why black Americans overobsess with ancient Egyptians despite the fact that their ancestors were predominantly Bantus from West Africa.

      1. I do believe some West Africans have ancient links to Kemet, such as the Dogons. Also there are times when the ancient Egyptians portrayed themselves as distinct from so-called “Nubians” (they weren’t called that at the time) and other times there clearly was no big distinction.

      1. Rubbish, get in a plane go over to the Museum of Ancient Iniquities in Cairo, Egypt and get a clue the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs (not counting the Nubiams, who ruled for a century), are depicted as olive or very white with white features. Tutenkamins throne has black Nubians under his feet! Travel please! o

    1. Thank you for visiting my blog and taking the time to read! Sorry for the incredibly late reply I’ve had a very busy month and I’m just getting to go back and read the comments.

  7. Thanks Caleb, excellent post..By the way I also began following your boards on Pinterest.By the way the above post seems a little hush because i have copy pasted it from a comment i made to someone else on another forum who was very annoying. You can also see some of my posts in http://www.egyptsearch.com ..I think a post I made on that forum about Libyans might interest you.It is called Ancient Libyans according to greco-roman historians.here is the link

    1. Thank you so much for your informative post the links to EgyptSearch. I have long followed those boards but was never able to get an account confirmed lol. But I’ve seen you guys absolutely drag some of the Eurocentric nuts and drive them crazy on there with your overwhelming facts while they can only offer half-truths and straight up fabrications, most notably the troll known as “lioness” lmao

      1. Hahaha..that’s right. Lioness is actually a white male pretending to be a black woman. How sick is that..Lol..Hope the truth comes out soon into the mainstream about the identity of Ancient Egyptians. See u around brother

        1. Yes, you can always expect the most ludicrous postings to come from that poster. I guess he thinks his opinion has more credibility when he pretends to be a Black woman, but in the end he just demonstrates how truly deceitful he and his ilk are. Hope to continue hearing from you as well. (-

          1. They have done it again .Eurocentism is a mental illness..

One day the truth will come out about the true race of ancient Egyptians, and these delusional Eurocentric white will be Ashamed. The black is rising again.

            1. I was unfortunate enough to have seen the trailer for this god-awful movie “gods of Egypt” when I went to see the movie Concussion the other night, and I was embarrassed for the actors in this cheesy film. I couldn’t tell if I was watching a trailer for “Casper the Friendly Ghost” or a so-called “Gods of Egypt” which had not a single actor of color (save maybe one or two) in the trailer at all!
The evidence that the Ancient Egyptians were a Black African people is already substantial, overwhelmingly in favor in fact. I believe this will be universally accepted the same day the doctrine of white supremacy ceases to dominate the globe.

              1. It’s clear to me that you have no scientific backing whatsoever. You are basing your evidence off of art which evolved so much over the time for the ancient Egyptians that it’s not funny. Go and read the DNA report of the mummy of Rameses II – look up Pierre-Fernand Ceccaldi, the professor in charge of the search.
Rameses was a WHITE male with RED hair…
I don’t know if maybe you are getting confused with some of the art from the intermediate periods where there were foreign rulers in Egypt but seriously… You are spreading lies.
If you refuse to believe me I am more than happy to find that report myself by the way, I’ve quoted it several times in my thesis.

              2. If you believe I based all of my beliefs on art alone, you didn’t read a word I wrote. I only made a reference to art because that’s what YOU referenced in your comment, talking about “milk white skin in paintings of women”. Don’t come in here citing Egyptian art as a way of disproving something and then claim it’s unfair that I base everything on artwork when I refute your point. You’ve got some nerve saying I’m being unscientific when you claim “white milk color” white people turn into black people when they hang out in the sun a lot. There’s nothing scientific about that.

              3. Of COURSE a white skinned person turning into a black person is unscientific. That’s my point – it didn’t happen. I’m going to be completely honest, I came here looking for a discussion, not an argument but after reading only two of your replies I can tell this is just going to be exhausting and pointless. Believe what you want, but don’t chalk people who disbelieve your theory as being supremacists or racists when there is no concrete evidence for your belief.

              4. Only you DID make that case. You said the Egyptian women were milk white because they stayed inside. Thus you implied the men were the same shade but were dark brown skinned only because they went outside so much. I’m saying that’s not how it works.

              5. Oh, so you’re assuming that the ancient Egyptians were the EXACT colour as that which they painted and that it wasn’t just a representation to show the difference? Of course that’s ridiculous, I do agree with that.
They used colours to represent many things, for example, you posted a picture earlier of Osiris who is the God of Khert-neter (or the underworld).
In the myths, Osiris died and is hence represented by being painted black and also often green as in their observation, it was the color that corpses turned as they rotted. I didn’t say that they were the exact color as painted on reliefs.

  8. Excellent brother, I have respect for people like who are only interested in the truth.Unlike Eurocentric historians who only want to hide and white wash world history

    Analyzed this way;
Ancient Egyptian skulls in general turn out to be more similar to skulls from eastern African countries such as
Ethiopia,Somalia,Kenya(Kalenjin, taita),Rwanda(tutsi) or Sudan than to European skulls (Kemp 2005). Sub-Saharan traits are especially strong in skulls from southern Egypt (also known as Upper Egypt)(Keita 1990, 2005),although they are less pronounced in northern Egyptian (or Lower Egyptian) skulls.
However, there is some evidence implying that
Egyptians did eventually mix with Asiatics and
indo-Europeans after the decline of Dynastic Ancient Egypt and beginning of Greco-Roman period. Comparison of Egyptian skulls across time shows
continuity for most of Egyptian history, but there is a degree of change in later periods, when Egypt experienced increased infiltration from foreigners (Zakrzewski 2004). By then, however, Egyptian civilization was in decline. Any foreign admixture during
Egypt’s golden years was small in scale.
Ancient Egyptians also appear to be more closely related to Africans than to Indo-europeans or Asiatics
when we take into account the shape of their skeletons beyond their skulls. Particularly important here is the
length of the limbs.Indigenous Africans have proportionately longer limbs than Caucasians because longer limbs more easily dissipate heat.Ancient Egyptians’ limb proportions are more similar to those of Africans than Europeans or Asians (Zakrzewski 2003). One study (Robins and Shute 1986) found the
Egyptians’ limbs to be even longer than those
of most Africans, calling them “super-Negroid”!Actually, Ancient Egyptian Limb proportions were very similar to Kenyan and Ethiopian long distance runners 02_J3910_Wilber_2012_0054_92-102.pdf According to prominent Kenyan egyptologist Dr Kipkoeech Araap Sambu, the Kalenjin people belonged to the military caste of Ancient Egypt http://www.rediscoverafrica.net/site/bf55bfd0594b40109f47d54d295b2517/default?url=http%3A%2F%2Frediscoverafrica.net%2FProducts.php#2606
Another line of evidence concerns hair morphology. One might think that all one has to do to tell what hair
texture the ancient Egyptians had is to simply look at their mummies, but this can be misleading. Analysis
of hair from Egyptian mummies shows that the proteins in it have been damaged, possibly by chemicals used in the mummification process (Bertrand 2003).Damage to hair’s chemical structure can change texture.Fortunately, there is a more reliable way to tell the original texture of a hair is by measuring
the cross-section with a special instrument called a TRICHOMETER.Using this, one can get the minimum and maximum diameter of a hair. Then, one divides
the minimum measurement by the maximum and
multiplies the product by a hundred, producing an index.Populations vary in the indices of their hairs’ cross-section. Curly-haired populations, such as Africans and Melanesians, have indices between 55 and 70. On the other hand,straight-haired populations, such as Europeans, Asians, and Native Americans, have indices above 70.When ancient Egyptian hair samples are subjected to trichometer measurements, they typically turn out indices between 35 and 66.5.
This indicates that most ancient Egyptians had naturally curly hair, as do most Africans (M’Bantu and Supia 2001).However, it must be noted that Egyptians
usually shaved their heads to rid themselves of hair lice and wore wigs most of the time (often the hair used to
make the wigs was imported from surrounding nations). Thus ancient Egyptian artwork does not usually depict Egyptians with their natural hair.If we wanted to more accurately determine the skin color of the ancient Egyptians, we should look at the skin cells in their mummies and take note of the amount
of melanin, the pigment that determines skin tone. Similar to what Prof Cheikh anta diop of Senegal did
with his melanin dosage test. One study (Mekota and Vermehren 2005) did just that when analyzing Egyptian mummies’ soft tissue. They described the skin cells as being “pack with melanin, as expected for specimens of Negroid [African] origin.” Unfortunately, they did not go into depth or specify exactly how much melanin was in the skin cells, but by choosing the word
“Negroid”,they implied that the ancient Egyptians’ skin tones were within the range we call “black”.
DNA RESULTS OF PHARAOH RAMASES III
Here are the Y- STR data for Rameses III and his son Pentawere
E1b1a .Which I found in this BMJ study http://www.bmj.com/content/345/bmj.e8268
Y- STR data places his YDNA haplogroup in E1b1a using Whit
    Athey’s Haplogroup predictor:
    his DYS repeats are
    listed as follows:
    DYS 19 19
    DYS 385a,b 20
    DYS 389I 13
    DYS 389II 33
    DYS 390 21
    DYS 391 8
    DYS 392 17
    DYS 393 8
    DYS 437 14
    DYS 438 10
    DYS 448 20
    DYS 456 13
    YGATAH4 13
Plugging these numbers in Whit Athey’s
    predictor does indeed
indicate that his haplogroup is E1b1a
with 99.1% probability using equal priors. Also notice none of the
scientists who carried out the research is black. So any claim of
contamination is bullshit.Extra care was taken while extracting DNA
from the mummies,it was taken directly from the Bone tissue

    http://www.academia.edu/2308336/Revisiting_the_harem_conspiracy_and_death_of_Ramesses_III_anthropological_forensic_radiological_and_genetic_study

In case you don’t know, E1b1a is associated with Bantu migration..
which explains the claims of most Bantu speaking peoples(south eastern bantus) and southern nilotes(Kalenjin and Datooga) that
they migrated from North Africa especially Libya and Egypt.Ofcourse others from KUSH.

    1. Thanks for posting so much scientific evidence to back up what for many has always been obvious. The new amount of information is enough to fill an entire book.

        1. Thanks man, I love to collect pictures on Pinterest because they are a good reference point to store info I need when I want to counter the false claims of racist nut bags.

  9. Ancient Egyptians looked semite just like Arabs
there is no evidence at all that suggests that we Egyptians were negroids EVER
its a claim made by the afrocentric history stealers
there is no way u can claim a Pharaoh like Ranofer here from 6th dynasty a negroid
6th dynasty means b4 any invasion to Egypt

or this seated scribe from 4th dynasty

Its is just Funny how Afrocentrics are trying to paint the entire African continent as black, as though African and black mean the same thing. “African” is a geographical term, not a genetic or cultural.
Egypt may be on the African continent but so is Morocco, Tunisia and other nations, and these peoples share more of a similar heritage to the Arabs and ancient Persians than they do with the people of Central, Coastal and South Africa.
Not all Africans are black and Egypt, being so close to the Middle East in culture and heritage is more of an Arabic historical area than it ever was as black.
That in no way diminishes the achievements of the Ancient Egyptians. Its so sad and petty that some are trying to hijack a revered culture like Ancient Egypt for political reasons

    1. You do realize that Black people or so-called “negroids” inhabited the world before other races existed right? The remaining indigenous peoples on just about every continent had jet-black skin, and anthropologists have nearly unanimously asserted that the earliest human remains in each place are generally what you call “negroid” only to later be replaced by the so-called “Caucasoid” or “mongoloid” later down the line, including in Europe and far east Asia. So your “Africa doesn’t equal Black” might make sense in current times, but has little to do in relation to ancient times when Black people inhabited every corner of the earth including modern Palestine. That doesn’t mean modern Egyptians have no relation to the ancients, but anthropologists have indeed stated that the phenotype of ancient Egypt (Kmt) changed from the beginning and gradually morphed to a more “Semitic” type with the successive invasions that came near the end of Ancient Egyptian civilization such as the Greeks, Assyrians, Persians, Arabs, Turks etc. etc. How would this not have an effect on the Egyptian phenotype, notably in the North? The current population is a mix of many different peoples who came to live there over time. Before the invasions however, immigration was not as widespread. In Egypt’s south today the population is much less mixed and still carries the appearance of the ancient Kushites who were ethnically little different from the first Egyptians. They were the original founders of Kemet and testimony of ancient writers agreed that Egypt began as a colony of Ethiopia. There is a reason that most of Egypt’s greatest ancient artifacts were discovered in the south of the country, in the land called ‘Nubia’, as opposed to the north. The first Semites to appear in Kemet were the Hyksos long after the establishment of the civilization.

      1. First of all the “First Humans” were Africans not negros
no one knows how exactly first humans looked like it took thousands and thousands of years for people to mutate to the current races we have now
those who remained in Africa mutated to Negroids, those who moves out of Africa mutated gradually to what we have now round the world
so the notion of “negroids” inhabited the world before other races” is invalid, or might i say BULLSHIT

” but anthropologists have indeed stated that the phenotype of ancient Egypt (Kmt) changed from the beginning and gradually morphed to a more “Semitic” type ”
i have never heared any respected Egyptologist make such ridiculous claim
Egypt was invaded as a colony, invaders only came here to form a tiny ruling class compared to the bulk of the egyptian population
we Egyptians remained in the villages l, there is no way an invader will leave his country to come live in Egypt as a low class peasant
whether Romans or Greeks they just ruled Egypt from Alexandria, ofcourse some mixture is bound to happen but it is just SOME minor cases that would never change the whole demographics of Egypt, it just doesnt make sense
in order for an invasion to come change our demographics then u must bring the whole of the Greeks from Greece to live in Egypt and get mixed with us lol 😀
        non logic ofcourse 🙂
btw have u heared about Ginger the oldest mummy in Egypt ?
have u noticed the pictures i posted before that date to the 4th dynasty before any invasion came to Egypt ?
why did u ignore those pictures ?
i can provide u with plethora of old dynasties pictures that show that we looked back then exactly like how we look now
Negroids has no place in ancient Egypt other than enemies, slaves, or prisoners of war
obviously u just feel guilt towards Back people and you are trying to make it up for them by giving them a history of a country they do not relate to at all so the can have pride in what doesnt belong to them

speaking of southern egyptians, they have darker skin only cause the sun in the south is more hotter and they are impoverished so they mostly spend their times working under the sun
plus in the past millenuim we imported a huge numbers of female nubian slaves which ofcourse would leave an impact on people’s look in the south

Blacks only have west Africa to relate to, they do not relate to Egypt whatsoever

        1. That the first humans were highly melanated is generally accepted considering how humanity as we know it began in East Africa where even today the people are clearly black in color. Mainstream scientists will readily acknowledge that white skin came much much later as an adaption to the cold weather in ice age in Europe. (And as you said, it was a process that took some time). See Washington Post “Scientists Find a DNA Change That Accounts for White Skin”; http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/15/AR2005121501728.html
No one “mutated” to a “negroid”. The mutations that happened on other continents were mutations FROM “negroid” due to various reasons such as different climates.
As for your “ginger” mummies, you guys also claim that the hair of so-called “ginger” mummy Ramesses II proves that the man had red hair, in spite of the fact that he was in his 90s when he died, and obviously he would’ve had white hair by that time anyway. So red hair on a mummy dating back to thousands of years ago really doesn’t mean what you think it does.
In fact, you show that you’re doing nothing other than grasping at straws when you state that Black people in ancient Egypt were nothing more than “enemies, slaves and prisoners of war”, and then go on to claim ancient Egyptians were Semites like yourself. I guess you forgot how Semites were depicted in the ancient art as well. (as enemies, slaves and prisoners of war!)

Compare that with the depiction of this battle scene with the Nubians of the south, with whom the Egyptians were ethnically very similar.

          1. Its very unfortunate, but with people like Zahi Hawass perpetuating the lie, i cant even blame the typical Arab for their ignorance of Kemet. Cognitive dissonance is real, Thankful to God that no matter how they label the truth/tan, they can never be as dark as the ancient egyptians. Arabs claiming Egyptian greatness is as stupid as the Spanish claiming Aztec glory. All along west africa, founding monarchs trace their history to the Nile delta. The truth will eventually come out fully and all these deniers will eventually hide their heads in shame…lol…. original egyptians my foot, like we cant trace when exactly you invaded…lmao

            1. Exactly. I mean, the invasions and migrations are well documented! This isn’t mere speculation on our part. And by the time Arabs did conquer Egypt, they weren’t conquering its original inhabitants because by the time they arrived in the 7th century Egypt had been invaded so many times by foreign occupiers such as the Romans, Greeks, Assyrians, Persians, etc. etc. In fact, the burning of the greatest library of knowledge in the ancient world at Alexandria happened during Christian occupation of the country by the Roman empire. Foreigners were attempting to eliminate all vestiges of ancient Kemetic culture long before Arabs ever arrived.

            2. And as you say, the ignorance is understandable. What is not understandable however is the modern Egyptian poster on here who is blatantly racist in his ignorance! One look at his Twitter account is more than enough to destroy his credibility.

      1. Yea we could play the picture game all the day and u’ll lose eventually just tell me when u would like to
cause unlike u i dont have to cherry pick some pictures that could remotely resemble negroids
i’ll just pick random pictures and u’ll will be overwhemed 🙂
btw those pictures of statues u provided arent a even definately negroid pictures,we have meny egyptians/Copts that look like that

about that Bust u showed claiming he is the Bust of the “1st Pharaoh of United Kemet”, this is just an afrocentric lie, no one knows who’s bust is this, it has nothing to who does it belong to 🙂

“That the first humans were highly melanated is generally accepted”
yea so ? skin color has nothing to do with race , ever heared of south indians ? do u know they belong to the caucasian race ?

“No one “mutated” to a “negroid”. The mutations that happened on other continents were mutations FROM “negroid” due to various reasons such as different climates.”
only u claim that without any proof, suit urself

“As for your “ginger” mummies, you guys”
Me guys ? who are me ? i’m egyptian not european or white lol 😀
Ramsses ll used to dye his hair with Henna, but for ginger his hair follicells were examined not just observed, nowadays no sane person dare claim Ramsses’s red hair is his hai’r original color
but anyway, u can observe his hair texture for urself and see if this a negroid hair or not 🙂

yea semites from the Levant were depicted with lighter skin cause guess what, they still are lighter skin than us, people from the same racial group vary in case u dont know

see this example here, this mural is called the book of gates
it shows how we egyptians viewed ourselves and how we viewed people around us, the racial differences were a bit exaggerated but anyway that was the point of the drawing, to appear distinct

we are the first on the right, negros are 3rd
u can easly spot the differences, we have same phenotype just like other semites
negroids are jet black, they are neither same skin color nor phenotype 🙂

        1. Those statues are not any more “cherry-picked” than the ones which you yourself posted, but now that I’ve had a look at your Twitter profile I realized that I’m having an argument with someone whose hatred of Black people is beyond the pale!! You seemingly live to portray them as backwards and unintelligent. Every single one of the hundreds of images on your Twitter is full of anti-Black diatribe. You even posted a picture of an African tribe referring to them as the “smelly race” and on another you went as far as to claim “white ppl were right when they thought of u as primitive savages good for nothing but slavery” (as if these same whites you so revere don’t also say similar things regarding Arabs as “backward”, “primitive” and “savages”).
You refer to the beautiful Massai people of Kenya (which is in East, not West Africa) as “chimps” and have a picture you posted several times called “n***er fairy tale”. Another one of the over 100+ pictures you have on your Twitter (every one of them being an expression of anti-Black hatred) states “Negro & academic do not match”, and I can’t even count how many times you use the n-word or compare Black people to apes. Well it’s apparent which side of the fence you play for!

I’m not bullshitting when I say that your Twitter page would almost put even the most virulent KKK member in the U.S. to shame!! Your truly disgusting frame of mind is no different than that of a white colonizer and imperialist who champions anglo-saxon supremacy.
The hatred you have for Africans is on par with the immense hatred evangelical Christian fascists and Zionists have for Arabs and Muslims. Truly pitiful.

        2. As for the pictures you posted, it’s not even an accurate drawing. There are several “Table of Nations” drawings in Egyptian tombs, and each one of them show a much greater distinction between native Egyptians and Semites than between Egyptians and the other Africans to their south (from whence they originally came).
The accurate drawing of the one you posted looks like this and is of a nations chart found in the tomb of Seti I:

As you can see at the top is Horus, then the Egyptian, Libyans, Kushites and “indo-Europeans” or “Aryans”. It’s based on this:

There’s a lesser known one appears in the tomb of Merenptah I and shows the Kemetic (Egyptian), the Asiatic (or Semite), the Kushite, and the so-called “Indo-European” or “Aryan”):

And of course there’s the one that appears in the tomb of Ramesses III which has still not been discredited despite desperate attempts to do just that. It appears as follows and in its original form is is in the order of Egyptians, the “Aryan”, the Kushite (Ethiopian), and finally the Asiatic or Semitic.

Here is the Egyptian depiction with the hieroglyph stating just that:

Originally Horus could be seen standing next to the Egyptian as he was in the tomb of Seti I, though it is no longer quite as apparent due to significant deterioration:

          Semite and “Aryan” here:

And here we have Semitic people being lead by the Egyptians:

And if you’re going to continue on about how so-called “negroes” were enslaved/ prisoners of war in Ancient Kemet, you will have to admit that the same is true of Semites or modern-day Arabs and Persians. The Egyptians were equal opportunity offenders:

          1. LOL
What is the point of reposting my same different versions of my picture several times ?
so i was saying we were not negroids and all u did was adding that we aent Arabs ?
oh, thx for this info then, i never claimed we are Arabs, i said we are copts who resemble so much the Arabs since we and the other North Africans and middle easterners all look similar
we made sure to appear different than west asians and Libyans by changing our skin color
but our phenotype remained the same
while negroids are depicted with Jet Black skin unlike our tanned skin
they have their bulbous foreheads and flat noses and nappy hair
while we Egyptians had tanned skin with same phenotype as our semite and berber neighbours 🙂

            1. You have much more in common with the Libyan and Asian depictions, because that is where your origins are to be found. The invasions of Egypt from those lands is documented history. The people who inhabited Ancient Kemet, however, traced their origins to the south – Ethiopia, Kush, and the source of the Nile. You can go on and on about “negroids” and “semites” all you want to, but regardless the ancient Egyptians traced their origins south – a place which is inhabited by what you refer to as “negroids”. No amount of whitewashing on your part is going to erase that.

              1. “The people who inhabited Ancient Kemet, however, traced their origins to the south”
                how ? when ?
teach us egyptology plz, when did Egyptians trace their Origins to the south in Ethiopia and Kush and the source of the Nile ? 🙂
provide us with a translation of any text that proves so please 🙂
well, i have the complete translation of the Papyrus of Hunefer, now u give me ur full translation
Ancient Egyptians = modern Egyptians = caucasoid Coptics, no amount of Blackwashing on ur part can change that 🙂

              2. Although a racist like yourself, the British Egyptologist William Flinders Petrie nevertheless concluded in 1939’s “The Making of Egypt” that the land of Punt (located in East Africa, though Petrie wouldn’t acknowledge that) was “sacred to the Egyptians as the source of their race.” And according to Egyptologist E. Wallis Budge in his “Short History of the Egyptian People”, “Egyptian tradition of the Dynastic Period held that the aboriginal home of the Egyptians was Punt”.
Scientists have now proven Punt’s location to be Eritrea and Ethiopia.
                http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/history/baboon-mummy-analysis-reveals-eritrea-and-ethiopia-as-location-of-land-of-punt-1954547.html

        1. Alright Imma stop you right here. They were NOT black.
If you are so interested in your paintings, please have a look at the colour of the skin of the women. WHITE as milk. You know why? Because women stayed inside and brewed beer, cooked bread etc all day whereas the MEN where out in the sun doing physical work – hence the tan.
          Egyptians were Caucasian.
After analysing numerous skulls found in cemeteries around Egypt, it is beyond clear that they have no connection at all with blacks. In the words of Prof Owen and repeated by Wallis Budge, “The Negro is prognathous, but the Egyptian is orthognathous; the bony structure of the negro is heavier and stronger than that of the Egyptian; the hair of the negro is crisp and wooly, while that of the Egyptian is smooth and fine.”
I study Ancient Egypt and the Near East in the historical and archaeological sense, so to see these bullshit articles about people who either think they know what they are talking about or are purposely spreading lies is just infuriating.

          1. Stay infuriated. It just shows how brainwashed you are if it “infuriates” you when someone asserts the ancient people of Kemet, at the time of its founding, were BLACK AFRICAN people in every sense of the modern understanding. And the pharaohs didn’t go outside any more than the ‘white’ females you speak of. The upper classes weren’t performing back-breaking labor in the hot son as you say. Why aren’t they depicted as lily white then? People who live in Egypt today aren’t even that color white, even if they were to sit inside the house all day long they probably still wouldn’t be that white. For you to accuse others of being not being historically or archaeologically sound because of your studies, ignores the fact that many have studied and examined the evidence and concluded the opposite. Your views on this are formed from the scientific era when scientific racism reigned supreme. In fact Egyptology as a study has its roots in scientific racism. Please see Black Genesis: the pre-historic origins of ancient Egypt and learn that the people who gave birth to that ancient civilization came from the Sahara as it dried up and, as I’ve pointed out above using the opinion of ancient writers, from Ethiopia in the south.

          2. “MEN where out in the sun doing physical work – hence the tan.”

Not sure why you chose to hit the caps-lock on MEN, but anyways.. If you study ancient Egypt so much, you should be well aware that the men who are so often portrayed in the paintings were not laborers at all. They were royalty, musicians, governors, upper nobility etc. and they were most certainly not doing manual labor outside all day any more than the average woman.
And btw, sticking a white person outside in the sun all day isn’t going to suddenly turn them dark tan or brown as you claim. It mostly results in the burning of the skin – a bright red sunburn, a fact that I am more than aware of.

    2. because they are invaders, and the rest of Africa is looking at you…in the next generation True africans are going to change that status quo, you came in by force you will be expelled by force unfortunately and its because of ignorant delusional lies like this that you spew that we will have to settle this matter once and for all…

      1. Why do you want to change the history just because the black people don’t have any ancient civilisations. The genetics shows that the actual egyptians are 90% originally of ancient egyptians so why do you to thief our history.10% of invaders can’t change the race of a country. We are proud of our origins and we don’t want to share it with other african people .We are just like ancient egyptians and it’s the history of my ancestors so please din’t claim ancient egypt culture as a black culture cause we were of mediterranean culture like phenicians , hebrews , greeks and romans

        1. hahahahahaha…..we know when the mamluks and romans came in to kemet and raped and killed indigenous africans…LMAO at meditteranian…thats why the crown of the pharaoh was of lower egypt and the mediteranian right? LMAO….or no the two lands were kemet and greece right… lol… WRONG….the two lands were Kemet and Kush….what pharoh married any medeteranian or greek…. stop trying to appropriate your history…you lot know where you really are from…. The ancient egyptians documented severally that they came from the south…the ancient greeks documented the same and quite frankly i am tired of debating with insecure descendants of invaders.. The greeks and Romans were in Kemet way before your mamluk / ottoman ancestors… go and do some reading on their work…
Greek historian Diodorus Siculus. From his own statements we learn that he traveled in Egypt around 60 BC. His travels in Egypt probably took him as far south as the first Cataract.

“They (the Ethiopians) say also that the Egyptians are colonists sent out by the Ethiopians, Osiris [“King of Kings and God of Gods] having been the leader of the colony . . . they add that the Egyptians have received from them, as from authors and their ancestors, the greater part of their laws.”

Diodorus’s declared intention to trace the origins of the cult of Osiris, alias the Greek Dionysus also commonly known by his Roman name Bacchus. The Homeric Hymn “To Dionysus” locates the birth of Dionysus in a mysterious city of Nysa “near the streams of Aegyptus” (Hesiod 287). Diodorus cites this reference as well as the ancient belief that Dionysus was the son of Ammon, king of Libya (3.68.1), and much of Book 3 of the Bibliotheka Historica is devoted to the intertwined histories of Dionysus and the god-favored Ethiopians whom he believed to be the originators of Egyptian civilization. [emphasis added]

(1st century B.C., Diodorus Siculus of Sicily, Greek historian and contemporary of Caesar Augustus, Universal History Book III. 2. 4-3. 3)

Diodorus devoted an entire chapter of his world history, the Bibliotheke Historica, or Library of History (Book 3), to the Kushites [“Aithiopians”] of Meroe. Here he repeats the story of their great piety, their high favor with the gods, and adds the fascinating legend that they were the first of all men created by the gods and were the founders of Egyptian civilization, invented writing, and had given the Egyptians their religion and culture. (3.3.2).

“Now they relate that of all people the Aithiopians [Ethiopians] were the earliest, and say that the proofs of this are clear. That they did not arrive as immigrants but are the natives of the country and therefore rightly are called authochthonous is almost universally accepted. That those who live in the South are likely to be the first engendered by the earth is obvious to all. For as it was the heat of the sun that dried up the earth while it was still moist, at the time when everything came into being, and caused life, they say it is probable that it was the region closest to the sun that first bore animate beings”.

[160,000-year-old fossilized skulls uncovered in Ethiopia are oldest anatomically modern humans.]

          Diodorus continues:

“They further write that it was among them that people were first taught to honor the gods and offer sacrifices and arrange processions and festivals and perform other things by which people honor the divine. For this reason their piety is famous among all men, and the sacrifices among the Aithiopians are believed to be particularly pleasing to the divinity,”

“The Aithiopians [Ethiopians] say that the Egyptians are settlers from among themselves and that Osiris was the leader of the settlement. The customs of the Egyptians, they say, are for the most part Aithiopian, the settlers having preserved their old traditions. For to consider the kings gods, to pay great attention to funeral rites, and many other things, are Aithiopian practices, and also the style of their statues and the form of their writing are Aithiopian. Also the way the priestly colleges are organized is said to be the same in both nations. For all who have to do with the cult of the gods, they maintain, are [ritually] pure: the priests are shaved in the same way, they have the same robes and the type of scepter shaped like a plough, which also the kings have, who use tall pointed felt hats ending in a knob, with the snakes that they call the asp (aspis) coiled round them.”

“There are also numerous other Aithiopian tribes [i.e. besides those centered at Meroe]; some live along both sides of the river Nile and on the islands in the river, others dwell in the regions that border on Arabia [i.e. to the east], others again have settled in the interior of Libya [i.e. to the west]. The majority of these tribes, in particular those who live along the river, have black skin, snub-nosed faces, and curly hair”.

(Diodous Siculus, Bibliotheke, 3. Translated by Tomas Hagg, in Fontes Historiae Nubiorum, vol. II: From the Mid-Fifth to the First Century BC (Bergen, Norway, 1996))

Aristotle (384-322 B.C.E.) Greek philosopher, scientist, and tutor to Alexander the Great.

Aristotle is said to have written 150 philosophical treatises.

“Too black a hue marks the coward as witness Egyptians and Ethiopians and so does also too white a complexion as you may see from women, the complexion of courage is between the two.”

          (Physiognomics, Vol. VI, 812a)

Aristotle makes reference to the hair form of Egyptians and Ethiopians: “Why are the Ethiopians and Egyptians bandy-legged? Is it because the bodies of living creatures become distorted by heat, like logs of wood when they become dry? The condition of their hair supports this theory; for it is curlier than that of other nations, and curliness is as it were crookedness of the hair.”

          (Physiognomics, Book XIV, p. 317)

The evidence of Lucian (Greek writer, 125 B.C.) is as explicit as that of the previous writers. He introduces two Greeks, Lycinus and Timolaus, who start a conversation:

Lycinus (describing a young Egyptian): “This boy is not merely black; he has thick lips and his legs are too thin . . . his hair worn in a plait behind shows that he is not a freeman.”

Timolaus: “But that is a sign of really distinguished birth in Egypt, Lycinus, All freeborn children plait their hair until they reach manhood. It is the exact opposite of the custom of our ancestors who thought it seemly for old men to secure their hair with a gold brooch to keep it in place.”

          (Lucian, Navigations, paras 2-3)

Herodotus (circa 400 bc) (Known to western historians as the Father of History)

Herodotus also asserted that “the names of nearly all the gods came to Greece from Egypt . . . for the names of all the gods have been known in Egypt from the beginning of time . . . It was the Egyptians too who originated, and taught the Greeks . . . ceremonial meeting, processions and liturgies . . . The Egyptians were also the first to assign each month and each day to a particular deity, and to foretell the date of a man’s birth, his character, his fortunes, and the day of his death . . . The Egyptians, too have made more use of omens and prognostics than any other nation. . .”

          (Herodotus, The Histories, 149-150; 152; 159).

”There can be no doubt that the Colchians are an Egyptian race. Before I heard any mention of the fact from others, I had remarked it myself. After the thought had struck me, I made inquiries on the subject both in Colchis and in Egypt, and I found that the Colchians had a more distinct recollection of the Egyptians, than the Egyptians had of them. Still the Egyptians said that they believed the Colchians to be descended from the army of Sesostris. My own conjectures were founded, first, on the fact that they are black-skinned and have woolly hair, which certainly amounts to but little, since several other nations are so too. But further and more especially, on the circumstance that the Colchians, the Egyptians, and the Ethiopians, are the only nations who have practised circumcision from the earliest times.

The Phoenicians and the Syrians of Palestine themselves confess that they learned the custom of the Egyptians. And the Syrians who dwell about the rivers Thermodon and Parthenius, as well as their neighbors the Macronians, say that they have recently adopted it from the Colchians. Now these are the only nations who use circumcision, and it is plain that they all imitate herein the Egyptians. With respect to the Ethiopians, indeed, I cannot decide whether they learned the practice of the Egyptians, or the Egyptians of them (it is undoubtedly of very ancient date in Ethiopia). But that the others derived their knowledge of it from Egypt is clear to me, from the fact that the Phoenicians, when they come to have commerce with the Greeks, cease to follow the Egyptians in this custom, and allow their children to remain uncircumcised.” (Herodotus, The Histories, Book 2:104)

The opinion of the ancient writers on the Egyptians is more or less summed up by French Egyptologist Gaston Maspero The Dawn of Civilization (1894), when he says, “By the almost unanimous testimony of ancient historians, they [the Egyptians] belong to an African race which first settled in Ethiopia on the Middle Nile: following the course of the river they gradually reached the sea.” The German scholar, Eugen Georg, in his book The Adventure of Mankind (1931) p. 121, tells us about the “. . . world-wide dominance of Ethiopian representatives of the black race. They were supreme in Africa and Asia. In upper Egypt and India they erected mighty religious centers and mastered a perfect technique in the molding of bronze — and they even infiltrated through Southern Europe for a thousand years.”

In his book Egypt, British scholar Sir E.A. Wallis Budge says: “The prehistoric native of Egypt, both in the old and in the new Stone Ages, was African and there is every reason for saying that the earliest settlers came from the South.” He further states: “There are many things in the manners and customs and religions of the historic Egyptians that suggests that the original home of their prehistoric ancestors was in a country in the neighborhood of Uganda and Punt.” (Some historians believe that the biblical land of Punt was in the area known on modern maps as Somalia.)

Stephanus of Byzantium, who is said to represent the opinions of the most ancient Greeks, says:

“Ethiopia was the first established country on the earth, and the Ethiopians were the first who introduced the worship of the Gods and who established laws.”

Quoted by John D. Baldwin, Prehistoric Nations, p. 62.

Arnold Hermann Heeren (1760-1842), Professor of History and Politics in the University of Gottengen and one of the ablest of the early exponents of the economic interpretation of history, published, in the fourth and revised edition of his great work Ideen Uber Die Politik, Den Verkehr Und Den Handel Der Vornehmsten Volker Der Alten Weld, a lengthy essay on the history, culture, and commerce of the ancient Ethiopians, which had profound influence on contemporary writers in the conclusion that it was among these ancient Black people of Africa and Asia that international trade was first developed.

He thinks that as a by-product of these international contacts there was an exchange of ideas and cultural practices that laid the foundations of the earliest civilizations of the ancient world. Heeren in his researches says: “From the remotest times to the present, the Ethiopians have been one of the most celebrated, and yet the most mysterious of nations. In the earliest traditions of nearly all the civilized nations of antiquity, the name of this distant people is found. The annals of the Egyptian priests are full of them, and the nations of inner Asia, on the Euphrates and Tigris, have interwoven the fictions of the Ethiopians with their traditions of the wars and conquests of their heroes; and, at a period equally remote, they glimmer in Greek mythology. When the Greeks scarcely knew Italy and Sicily by name, the Ethiopians were celebrated in the verses of their poets, and when the faint gleam of tradition and fable gives way to the clear light of history, the lustre of the Ethiopians is not diminished.”

The French writer Constantin-François Volney (1757-1820), in his important work, The Ruins of Empires, extends this point of view by saying that the Egyptians were the first people to “attain the physical and moral sciences necessary to civilized life.” In referring to the basis of this achievement he states further that, “It was, then, on the borders of the Upper Nile, among a Black race of men, that was organized the complicated system of worship of the stars, considered in relation to the productions of the earth and the labors of agriculture; and this first worship, characterized by their adoration under their own forms and national attributes, was a simple proceeding of the human mind.”

Volney’s Ruins; or, Meditation on the Revolutions of Empires, Boston, J. Mendum, 1869

Flora Shaw’s (alias Lady Flora Lugard) book is an extraordinary look at the history of Africa, which she gathered from countless sources, and one would imagine a great deal of it came from the British Library and from the archives of The Times of London, for whom she had for many years been the Foreign Political Correspondent. She had always been known to be an intensive researcher into her subject matter, and one wonders at the months and probably years she put into this undertaking, which became the reference work for so many future books on Africa. This book was first published 100 years ago showing the detail and descriptive power, and the greatness that Africa once was. Lady Lugard argues that:

“When the history of Negroland comes to be written in detail, it may be found that the kingdoms lying towards the eastern end of Sudan (classical home of Ancient Ethiopians) were the home of races who inspired, rather than of races who received, the tradition of civilization associated for us with the name of ancient Egypt. For they cover on either side of the Upper Nile between the latitudes of ten degrees and seventeen degrees, territories in which are found monuments more ancient than the oldest Egyptian monuments. If this should prove to be the case and civilized world be forced to recognize in a black people the fount of its original enlightenment, it may happen that we shall have to revise entirely our view of the black races, and regard those who now exist as the decadent representatives of an almost forgotten era, rather than as the embryonic possibility of an era yet to come.”

“The fame of the ancient Ethiopians (ancient Kushites) was widespread in ancient history. Herodotus described them as the tallest, most beautiful and long-lived of the human races, and before Herodotus, Homer, in even more flattering language, described them as the most just of men, the favorites of the gods. The annals of all the great early nations of Asia Minor are full of them. The Mosaic records allude to them frequently; but while they are described as the most powerful, the most just, and the most beautiful of the human race, they are constantly spoken of as Black, and there seems to be no other conclusion to be drawn than at that remote period of history, the leading race of the Western World was a Black race.”

and dont forget the prophecy of Neftari

Then a king will come from the South,

          Ameny, the justified, by name
Son of a woman of Ta-Seti, child of Upper Egypt.

He will take the white crown,
          He will wear the red crown;
He will join the Two Mighty Ones..
Rejoice, O people of his time,
The son of man will make his name for all eternity! ..

Asiatics will fall to his sword,
Libyans will fall to his flame,
Rebels to his wrath, traitors to his might,
As the serpent on his brow subdues the rebels for him.

          One will build the Walls-of-the-Ruler
To bar Asiatics from entering Egypt

not arabs or Mediterranean or greek .. TASETI…. KUSH…..
and ill leave you with the conversation between Imhotep and Djoser.documented in the famine steelae..were they locate their origin and the birthplace of their God Knum in Nubia…not greece not Mediterranean…. and im using white washed eurocentric wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famine_Stela
The story told on the stela is set in the 18th year of the reign of king Djoser. The text describes how the king is upset and worried, as the land of Egypt has been in the grip of a drought and famine for seven years, during which time the Nile has not flooded the farm lands. The text also describes how the Egyptian people are suffering as a result of the drought and that they are desperate and breaking the laws of the land. Djoser asks the priest staff under the supervision of high lector priest Imhotep for help. The king wants to know where Hapy (a river deity directly identified with the Nile) is born and which god resides at this place.

Imhotep decides to investigate the archives of the temple Hut-Ibety (“House of the nets”), located at Hermopolis and dedicated to the god Thoth. He informs the king that the flooding of the Nile is controlled by the god Khnum at Elephantine from a sacred spring located on the island, where the god resides. Imhotep travels immediately to the location which is called Jebu. In the temple of Khnum, called “Joy of Life”, Imhotep purifies himself, prays to Khnum for help and offers “all good things” to him. Suddenly he falls asleep and in his dream Imhotep is greeted by the kindly looking Khnum. The god introduces himself to Imhotep by describing who and what he is and then describes his own divine powers. At the end of the dream Khnum promises to make the Nile flow again. Imhotep wakes up and writes down everything that took place in his dream. He then returns to Djoser to tell the king what has happened.

The king is pleased with the news and issues a decree in which he orders priests, scribes and workers to restore Khnum´s temple and to once more make regular offerings to the god. In addition, Djoser issues a decree in which he grants the temple of Khnum at Elephantine the region between Aswan and Takompso with all its wealth, as well as a share of all the imports from Nubia.[1][2]……. so please go and live your delusional fantasies else where deep inside you know your real origins…you are not of africa and africa is not of you….

  10. Well researched and passionately argued. This is what blogs should be, and I hope you engage with many more readers. As I read I couldn’t help thinking how pervasive colonialism and racism are, in just about everyone’s lives in 2015 and beyond, and not some 19th century movements we’ve got over. As for Hollywood, they are really crippled there by big budgets, which require big sales. So they must appeal to audience prejudices, to what they expect to see. Cinema there is a wish fulfilment process after all. Ancient Egypt is in the bible, and the bible was written about Jews who are really white men according to the 19th century Revivalist movement. The negro in Hollywood has always had a hard time, and you just have to look at the career of the great Paul Robeson to see how bad it was. As for historians, they all have their prejudices. Histories of the ancient world written in English are all Eurocentric with few exceptions. Evans’ Minoan Crete, a bit like 18th century Vienna; the Persian Wars treated as akin to the war against Hitler, with never an acknowledgment of the Asian origins of much Greek civilisation; and ancient Rome ignored as the great polyglot world it was, with many black Emperors from African origins, simply because the Romans, with all their faults, were indifferent to skin colour (divine ancestry was the go). You stimulate even more ideas. That the end of slavery, a gross destruction of the rights of man (and an institution supported by the bible references to slavery) was followed by the invention of coolie labour and the destruction of the Kanaks, made by the same people who had felt good about abolishing slavery. Following profit where ever it takes you gets you into some ugly places, and sometimes sanctimonity is your only defence. Definitely a blog to explore, and I intend to.

    1. Hey man. Thanks very much for taking time to read my writing and writing such a well thought-out comment. You have quite an amazing blog yourself. And I too have such admiration for Paul Robeson. He is one of my all-time heroes and it’s a shame so many people these days have never even heard of him. Washington D.C. designated him enemy #1 and Hollywood was only too quick and eager to comply.

      1. Some points I think should be defined in this discussion.
        1. We know nothing about the races of peoples in ancient times. In paintings from Egypt some figures are depicted with black skin: that’s as far as it goes. We can only derive the language groups of ancient peoples and don’t know where they came from.
        2. ‘Race’ is a 19th century pseudo science invented to explain differences in skin colour, and the term is meaningless, as are the terms ‘caucasoid’, ‘negroid’ etc. The terms are based on the experience of colonialism, and are a justification of that experience. There are distinctions between types of humans, but they’re not based on race.
        3. People are not happy with not knowing, and invent races, skin colour etc. I sympathise, but it’s not history. Its prejudice (sorry, a strong opinion).
        4. ;Africa’ is a continent. People often speak of it as a nation, but it now includes 54 nations speaking 2,000 languages, with over 1 billion people. ‘African’ as a descriptive term is as meaningless as ‘Asian’. What about saying that all Americans are basically Europeans?
        5. Squabbles over skin colour, races, and Africans, may be fun, but they can never settle anything, because the terms can not be defined.
        6. Ancient paintings from Egypt were not realistic. They should not be treated like photos. They were painted according to set conventions. Men had darker skin than women for instance. The paintings have been subjected to unknown chemical changes over the centuries, and some of these might have affected colours. Pyramids and sculptures were painted in bright colours, but they are long gone, and would not have been realistic either.
        7. We can’t assume that anthropoid apes from Africa had dark skin. They had body hair which hid the skin completely, so if we ever saw one we certainly wouldn’t think he or she was black.

So sorry to point this out. I hope others can keep up the discussion without recourse to silly terms like ‘African’, ‘race’, and (another one) ‘Ottoman’. As has been pointed out, peoples mixed throughout their history. Not only Iranians, but Greeks from Macedonia and Italians from Sicily sometimes have green eyes and blonde hair. Please forget race. It means hatred, it means oppression, it means cruelty, and nothing more.

        1. “Ancient paintings from Egypt were not realistic. They should not be treated like photos. They were painted according to set conventions. Men had darker skin than women for instance” – that statement is a fallacy used to try to explain to the European the appearance of brown skinned people in the worlds foremost civilizations.. There are many couples in Egyptian art that are the same skin tone, some women even darker. Take for instance the image of King tut and is wife on his throne, the enameled carving is consistent with paintings of him on his tombs wall…And lastly on race…as much as it is a fictional concept is has very real consequences for the Negro, and has been used to justify the most savage behaviour, so while we are one it, EGYPT WAS BUILT BY INDIGENOUS AFRICANS….africans were not just scattered all over the continent, they also migrated, The yoruba for instance founding fathers trace their roots back to te Nile valley and several words in Yoruba are similar to the pharonic tongue

          1. The term “African” is not meaningless and cant be compared to calling all europeans american. Africans did not go about invading people, the diversity prevalent in nothern Africa is a result of Invasions. The peoples of Africa have root languages and were separated more than anything due to colonization and arbitrary borderlines. The empire of Songhai for instance occupied most of west africa. Kingdoms in ghana , the nok and Benin empire were dealing directly with Nile valley civilizations…Egypt has to be RE-contextualized to see it for what it was, the invaders currently occupying egypt are not of Africa, we know and they know, similar to those in south Africa. The conversation is about the white washing of AFRICAN HISTORY, its quite redundant to not speak of it in context of Africans.

          2. Also the Dogon in modern-day Mali trace their origins to Kemet as well, and much of the knowledge they possessed about the solar system, such as the Sirius star, astounded European explorers who came across them in the 19th and early 20th century.

    1. I thank you so much for your thoughtful comment and I appreciate your wonderful blog. You are a very unique person with a very unique perspective!

    1. I do not agree that this was always the case. I believe the current population is a mixture of many different peoples who traveled to Egypt beginning around 500 B.C. and certainly with the Arab conquest in the 7th century A.D.

    2. So called Arabs today are from the ottoman Turks which were from Turkey.
Before Iraq Iran Israel Saudi Arabia Egypt Lebanon were conquered by the ottoman Turks those people were Black. The Bible and The Quran says this.

      1. LOL Darren stfu. Im Iranian and I have blonde hair and black eyes. My great grandparents looked like me. The Ottomans didnt change anything. Your just mad that blacks have never accomplished anything past a mud hut. Egypt was multiracial. There were blacks, white europeans, and white arabs in egypt. I do agree that everyone was black, or everyone was arab. It was a multiracial society. There were white rulers, and black rulers of Egypt. And FYI to all African Americans, you werent related to Egpytians anyways. You were from Western Africa, not anywhere near Egypt. Your ancestors were the lowest of the low of Africans, enslaved by other Africans before us white devils came and got you.

        1. Anything you said lost merit the moment you ridiculously claimed that “blacks have never accomplished anything past a mud hut.” You don’t know shit about history but what your biased elementary social studies classes taught you apparently. My god, Ancient Mali alone in West Africa during the 13th century was bigger and better than anything that existed in Europe. The notion that Africa is nothing but jungles and people living in “mud huts” has been a white supremacist fantasy and trope meant to justify your hideous role in perpetuating the most barbaric form of slavery the world has ever known. And as a so-called “Aryan” you should know better than anyone that ancient Indus Valley civilizations in modern India were created by the indigenous so-called “Dravidian” who, upon being invaded by the so-called “Aryans”, were subsequently repressed using the most cruel and barbaric forms of torture, which unfortunately is something that white people do in fact excel at.

        1. Were it’s written that God created different human communities , for they could know each others, ignorant!

          1. I’ve been following this thread and I have to say that most Egyptians look like a race with African AND Arab admixture. I am a mixed American with African heritage and throughout my time living in the mid-East, I am constantly asked if I am from Egypt! Also, whenever I watch Egyptians on TV or meet them in person, their phenotype reminds me so much of my own family. Sorry to say this but there are no Egyptians that are 100% Arab just as there are no Americans who are 100%. I wish you would do a DNA test along with your parents and grandparents and you will probably find African blood running through your veins.

        2. Prejudice Against Dark Skin- Was Adam Black-Skinned
          Allah says,

Verily We created man of potter’s clay of black mud altered. And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire.
And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter’s clay of black mud altered. So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him.
So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together. Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? He said: Why should I prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter’s clay of black mud altered? He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for verily thou art outcast. And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. He said: Then lo! Thou art of those reprieved; Till an appointed time. He said: My Lord, Because Thou has sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one. Save such of them as are Thy perfectly devoted slaves. [El Hijr-verses 26-40]
Marmeduke Pickthal translation of the Quran

Allah says that verily He created Adam from clay made of black mud and that before the creation of Adam, He created the jinn from fire of a scorching wind. Allah told the angels that He was going to create man from clay made of black mud. He told the angels that after He fashioned Adam and breathed into him from His spirit that they had to bow down to Adam. All of the angels bowed down to Adam. However, Iblis refused to bow. Allah asked Iblis why he refused to bow. Iblis said that he would not bow down to a man that He (Allah) created from clay made of black mud. Allah then expelled Iblis from Paradise and cursed him. Iblis asked Allah to grant him respite until the Day of Resurrection and Allah granted him respite. Iblis then said that he would lead Adam’s descendants astray; all of them except Allah’s sincere servants.

It is a known fact that the Arabic word for black mud is hama. Also, the scholars say the following about the word hama in their tafsirs (explanation) of the Quran:

          · Explaining hama in the verses above, El Quortobi says in his tafsir of the Quran:

“Hama is black mud.” والحمأ: الطين الأسود

          · Explaining hama in the verses above, Jalal Eddine Mohamed Ahmed El-Mahalli and Jalal Eddine Abdel Rahman El-Sayouti say in their tafsir of the Quran called Tafsir El-Jalaalain:

“Hama is black mud.” (من حمأ) طين أسود

          · Explaining hama in the verses above, El Tabari says in his tafsir of the Quran:

“As for His words ‘from hama masnoun’, hama is the plural of ham_a which is mud that has been altered to the color black.”

وأما قوله “من حمإ مسنون” فإن الحمأ : جمع حمأة ، وهو الطين المتغير إلى السواد
          · Explaining hama in the verses above, Mohamed ibn Ali El-Shawkaani says in his tafsir of the Quran called Fath El Qadir:

“Hama is black mud; either black mud that has been altered or black mud that hasn’t been altered.

والحمأ: الطين الأسود المتغير. أو الطين الأسود من غير تقييد بالمتغير

          · Explaining hama in the verses above, El-Baidawi says in his tafsir:

“From hama” means from mud which was altered and is black.

” من حمإ” طين تغير واسود من طول محاورة الماء

          · Explaining hama in the verse above, El-Baghawi says in his tafsir:

“From hama” and hama is black mud.

          من حمإ”، والحمأ: الطين الأسود”

          El-Baghawi also said:

“There are some hadith that say that Allah fermented the mud that
Adam was created from and let it sit until it became altered and
black and then He created Adam peace be upon him from it (the black, altered mud).”

وفي بعض الآثار: إن الله عز وجل خمر طينة آدم وتركه حتى صار متغيرا أسود، ثم خلق منه آدم عليه السلام

          · Ibn al-Qayyim said:

“When the perfection, complete power, all-encompassing knowledge, ever-executed will and utmost wisdom of the Lord decreed that His creation should be of materials of different kinds, and that they should vary in their forms and attributes and natures, His wisdom decreed that He should take a handful of dust from the earth, then mix it with water. So it became like black stinking mud. Then the wind was sent upon it and it dried out, until it became clay like pottery. Then it was given shape and limbs and faculties, and each part of it was given a shape suited to its purpose.” (Tabaayun fi Aqsaam al-Quran, p. 204)

          · Expaining hama, which is also found in verse 86 of surat El-Kahf, Ibn Kathir says in his tafsir:

Hamia is a lot of ham_a and ham_a means black mud.

” حمئة ” أي كثيرة الحمأة وهي الطينة السوداء

How many people truly understand these verses of the Holy Quran? How many people, both Islamic scholars and laypeople, reflect on these verses and try to understand and explain what Allah is saying in them? How many people give these verses the importance that they deserve? I always ask myself why these verses aren’t given the importance that they deserve when it is these very verses that show the origin of the battle between evil and good. Allah revealed the Quran to be studied and understood. Allah says,

          أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ أَمْ عَلَى قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَا

Will they then not meditate on the Quran, or are there locks on the hearts? (Mohamed-verse 24)

          Allah also says,

(This is) a Scripture that We have revealed unto thee, full of blessing, that they may ponder its revelations, and that men of understanding may reflect. (Sad-verse 29)

Why are people ignoring what Allah is saying in these verses about the creation of our father Adam? When Allah says that He created our father Adam from black mud, He says this for mankind to know. There are no words in the Quran that are unimportant or not worth explaining. The Quran is the speech of Allah and the best speech is the speech of Allah.

Those who claim that there are more important things that should be discussed before talking about the color of Adam and the description of the prophets must show where Allah says that some of His words are more important than others. They must also show where Allah says that what He said about the color of the mud that He created our father Adam from is not important. Those who make such a claim must also show where the prophet Mohamed (pbuh) said that the description that he gave of Musa’s (Moses’) and Isa’s (Jesus’) color is not important. If we say that it’s alright to disregard this part of the Quran and the Sunna, what’s to stop people from ignoring and calling insignificant other parts of the Quran and the Sunna? People cannot simply dismiss as unimportant any part of the Quran or the Sunna that they, for whatever reason, do not feel comfortable with. People cannot take it upon themselves to decide what in the religion is important and what isn’t important. Instead we must accept the religion in its entirety and say that it is all from our Lord. How can anyone consider information that might prevent people from imitating Satan and committing blasphemy unimportant? Certainly if a person understands that Allah created our father Adam black-skinned and he/she still looks down on that color and thinks that another color is better, he/she is imitating Satan and is committing blasphemy and all sorts of sins. It is important that people understand this fact.

If people gave more emphasis to these verses and understood what Allah is saying, there would probably be no racial prejudice and discrimination in the world today. There would probably be fewer conflicts in the world today, too. Allah says that He created Adam, the father of all mankind, from black mud. Is it possible for anyone who believes in Allah and understands the sublimity of Allah to dare look down on a physical attribute that Allah put in the father of mankind, whom He created with His own two hands and honored above all of His creation? He (Allah) honored our father Adam so much that He commanded the angels to bow down to Adam. Can a person who truly believes in Allah find fault in the appearance of he whom Allah created with His own two hands? Doing so is blasphemy and a great insult to Allah.

          BLACK MUD= BLACK SKIN!!!!

  11. Mate, according Egypt to africans is akin to giving them (Africans) the intellectual capacity that we (europeans) have deemed (and promoted) them not capable of. The european will never ever let that happen….KT

  12. Well written, beautifully structured post. I completely agree with you on this matter. It is wrong to alter the look of historic (and iconic) African figures for the sake of entertainment purposes. If a darker skinned actor/actress cannot even play the role of a historically dark skinned figure, what does this imply? A white (or non-black) person does a better job than this? There’s so many beyond capable actors in Hollywood for this issue to be overlooked. I’ve written a post on this issue too, if you would like to read: http://thebate.uk/2014/09/01/whiteskin/

Once again, lovely reading. Keep it up!

    1. Well said! I mean it’s 2014 and the misrepresentation apparently hasn’t changed one bit since “The Ten Commandments” movie back in 1956!

  13. Excellent essay. It is disgusting that we are still battling this today. After the masses of countless scholarly research that constantly stands to illustrate the truth about Africa such as “Before they Mayflower” by Lerone Bennett Jr., “Civilization or Barbarism” by Cheikh Anta Diop, and “Stolen Legacy” by George GM James.

I think what is most diabolical is the off-handed manner in which these types of things happen. It’s like “oh we know that they were Black but we felt no obligation to portray them as such.” But these same Hollywood clowns would swear that White privilege isn’t still running rampant and that we are in a post-racial society. Its asinine. And the level of insult, pain, and degradation that is caused by what they treat as a simple artistic choice cannot be described. As always, I enjoy your thoroughness and your willingness to call out the bullshit of America when you see it. RESPECT.

    1. Thanks. I’ve been wondering where you’ve been as I noticed your blog for a little while wasn’t having as many updates. Glad to see you’re back!
And it’s amazing how the scholarly works of people like Diop and the amazing compilations that have been put together by Dr. Ivan Van Sertima in the Journal of African Civilizations are continually overlooked or dismissed by some as some sort of “conspiracy theory” – yet they don’t even deride the suggestion of “extraterrestrial origins” of Egypt with nearly as much venom. smh.

  14. Lovely, insightful post. There is so much dialogue/discourse talking about the importance of developing Africa, when actually, Africa was cast under the imperialist/colonialist gaze and ‘developed’ a little too much. The history of Mali and of Egypt shows how little development AFrica actually needed. Instead, the continent was exposed to epistemicide. And yet our modern day philosophers still explore concepts (eg dream interpretation), which originated in Africa. Makes you think.

    1. That’s a great point you make. It’s crazy to think how growing up we’re taught in the school curriculum how Africa (and likewise America) were places without any history whatsoever before Europeans came and brought it to them, when in actuality Europe was in the Dark Ages while the Kingdom of Mali was the light of the world. Britain for vast majority of world history a baren wasteland in comparison.

      1. I know, and we forget the genocides which came out of Europe in the past century, and focus on dictatorships in Africa. It’s the stories which get told, the ones which get overlooked, and the histories dis-remembered which make all the difference.

there’s quite a lovely gaze back at the western world from an african perspective called ‘white man kontri’ (I think the spelling is right) by Francis Nyamnjoh, who’s a very interesting academic and writer.

Yours is a fascinating and very insightful blog, by the way. I’m so glad I found it.

        1. Aww you’re too kind Nicci (-; and I will definitely be looking for that title on Amazon or at Barnes n’ Nobles.
As to the first point you made it’s interesting to note how many of the worst dictators like Mobutu are the ones who were handpicked by the West and supported by each successive administration in the White House because they would never allow a truly revolutionary reader such as Patrice Lumumba to emerge. They knew they would never be able to buy him off, so of course they assassinated him.

          1. Everytime I watch Spooks (BBC tv series on MI5), I get so worried. But reality is scarier sometimes.

      2. This video describes how the history was originally washed. From the 20 minn mark on this video nails what happened.

        1. Thank you for sharing this video! I started watching this and I’m really enjoying it. Amazing. Even though I’m only 5 minutes into it so far. Did you make this or just come across on YouTube?

            1. Indeed it is deceptive. And what’s more is I’ve seen documentaries on the Discovery and History Channels in which not even a modern day Egyptian was used to reenact the roles, but white guys who looked like they come straight from rural Alabama or something.

  15. We shouldn’t be too surprised. Disgusted and angry, yes. Surprised, no.
Every part of a culture functions to support its elite when it comes to expanding and defending its power. If we understand how the US needs us to look at Egypt NOW, we’ll immediately understand why the US needs us to view ancient Egypt.

Thanks for another impressive post Caleb. Your work is a significant contribution.

    1. That’s an excellent point you make there. I mean, just look at the military coup our tax money funded that overthrew the democratically-elected Mohammed Morsi, who was thrown in prison and tortured along with those who professed support for him. Nearly 300 have been sentenced to death! And why does the U.S. get away with saying it supports “democracy” everywhere in the world again? This is the antithesis of that.

      1. The thing is people think to be black is to look negro.Have people seen the Khosian,Bejas and the Zulus.Different features but they are all black.
